Mitosis Inc was founded by Timothy Wilkinson, shortly after the departure of his mother “Ruby Wilkinson” in May of 1999. In recognition of his mother, he posted a ruby, illustrated on the front page of his website behind his company’s name to keep the spirit of his mother alive. Mitosis was created from the scientific term “Mitosis” which means, the reproduction of the nucleus of a cell. As a child, Timothy always had a passion for music, although his primary trade is barbering, he noticed musical talent in his friends and child affiliates which inspired him to establish a foundation for their musical endeavors. He also wanted to remain optimistic and to recycle the emptiness in his life from his mother’s departure. Mitosis’s first artist was Jerry Foster a.k.a. Insane, a local native “Las Vegan” and also a childhood friend. Insane established the company’s first album RLNGA. After being in a bitter three year contract, the album was never released. Simultaneous to the expiration of that contract, Insane encountered some personal situations that led to his absence until October 2007. Upon the completion of the company’s first album, Jamell Lee also known as Catas (KUH-TAZ) was working on his debut album. Catas, also from Las Vegas, has been with Mitosis since 2000 and has patiently contributed his lyrical artistry to Mitosis consistently. His “highly anticipated” album is entitled project “89106” is currently available, with tracks produced by Genetic Code, Dirty Crumb and A.D. In 2002 Mitosis signed two more artists known as Rockwood, which consist of Bryant Roosevelt (B-Rose) and Jason Neyland (King Jason), both are from Toledo, Ohio representing Sleeping Hallow 1.5. B-Rose and King Jason currently resides in Toledo. They bring an energetic and electrifying composition to the label, they’re recording in Las Vegas and Toledo to finish their album entitled the “Pentagon” to be released upon completion. Mitosis wanted to add a different gender to the label, so the company signed an artist named Erica Brown also known as Paulyn, an Oakland native and where she currently resides. Paulyn has been with Mitosis since 2003 and she’s surely Neo-Funk to the bone. She presently records in Oakland and Las Vegas and periodically performs on venues of her discretion.
